Issue: Loading of information from COOL:Gen DAT files fails with "format error in temporary file".

Resolution: This is due to a problem in Component Manager which corrupts line breaks in object descriptions or NOTE statements. Work-around applied in version 4.1.011 which tests for the corruption and fixes it during the transfer.

Testing your OLE Setup

The most common problem affecting new EXPOSER users is an inability to launch and control Word and/or Excel from within EXPOSER. This is usually due to some problem with application setup or registration. OLETEST.XLS is an Excel workbook which contains 2 simple to use macros (triggered by push buttons) to test your installation outside of EXPOSER.

The macros attempt to launch Word and create a simple document. If they fail they should give an indication as to the source of the problem. The macros work only with English language versions of Excel.

Inability to launch Word and/or Excel

Error 429: OLE Automation - unable to create object

If, when running EXPOSER for the first time, you receive this message this is usually an indication that Word or Excel has not been correctly installed. In particluar, this is likely to happen if the Word/Excel application has not been properly registered with the Windows registry. First check that Word/Excel is installed on the workstation and operating correctly standalone. If so, try (re)registering the application(s) - with Office 4.x and Office 95 you can do this by running REGEDIT on the Excel and Word *.REG files. With Office 97 you have to start up the applications from the Run command line (Start...Run) with the /regserver switch. Then try creating the extract again from EXPOSER.

Error 438: OLE Automation - no such property or method

This problem is usually an indication that a non-English version of Word or Excel is installed and you are trying to run an English-only version of EXPOSER (3.0.x).
